The alquería had stood empty for thirty years, but its structure was sound: load-bearing walls of rammed earth and brick, and an arched gallery facing the groves. We treated the gallery as the hotel's corridor, lobby and lounge at once.
Twelve rooms fit inside the existing walls without a single new opening on the main façade. Services run through the old grain stores, and the only new volume, a low pavilion for the restaurant, is built in the same handmade brick.
Guests reach their rooms through shade the whole way. In August, the gallery is six degrees cooler than the orchard outside.
