Refurbishing a corrala flat: what we keep and what goes
Before we draw a single wall, we spend a day on site with a camera, a moisture meter and a list. This is the list.

Keep: original floors, ceiling mouldings, internal shutters, solid timber doors and anything structural that is doing its job. These are expensive to replace and impossible to fake.
Question: partitions added after the 1950s, false ceilings, and any room without a window. Most of what makes these flats feel dark was added later.
Replace without regret: wiring, plumbing, and every layer of paint that seals the walls. That is where the budget should go first, even if nobody will ever see it.
